Abba Father

Christianity is not just about salvation and making it to heaven, but an invitation to know God as Father, as Daddy, or as the bible says Abba, Father. Join us as we explore the Father's heart together.

Romans 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” NKJV

The Greek word Patḗr means “Father” One who imparts life and is committed to it;  bringing into being to pass on the potential for likeness.

The Greek word Abbá means “Father,” but it is also used as the term of tender endearment by a beloved child in an affectionate, dependent relationship with their Father; “Daddy,” “Papa.”

Gal 4. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father! 7 Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

The type of child we are is reflective of how we see God as Father. If we see Him as distant and angry, what will we be like as His son? But distant and probably angry.

God is looking to restore our Father-son relationship. To be as close to us as He is to Jesus.

We're all His children but we're not all His children – acts 17:28 for in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

We are made in His image, after His likeness.

We rejected God and all went our own way, we all left home like the prodigal, but it's not just about coming back home, but how we are whilst we are at home.

What would it be like if you were a parent and your children who live with you only spoke to you once a week?

3 things we can do to know God as Abba

1.      The gospel we hear causes us to see Jesus: “if You have seen Me you have seen the Father”

2.      Jesus grew in His relationship with God

3.      Jesus was fully dependent on His Father
