We believe at Restoration Christian Church that prayer is a vital ingredient in the life of every believer. We first have to understand that our prayers are not a burden to God, but as sweet incense that He delights in:
"Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints." Revelation 5:8
When we humbly come before God in prayer, turning fully to Him as the source of our hope, then His blessing is promised to us:
"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14
Our understanding must be that our prayers are never pointless, or worthless. But rather through them, God is willing and able to manifest His power if we simply pray in faith:
"And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." James 5:15-16
It is the heart of God towards us that we are never anxious about the situations we face in life. We are told that if we bring all our needs before Him in prayer, whilst maintaining an attitude of thankfulness; He will fill our hearts and minds with His marvelous peace.
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7
Prayer, along with rejoicing in the Lord, and being thankful in all circumstances, are three key elements in our spiritual life that should never cease. Through constantly doing these things, we develop a personal and intimate relationship with our Father in Heaven, and find ourselves in the heart of His will for our lives.
"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in all things give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." 1 Thessalonians 16:18
Finally, when we learn to put pride, embarrassment, and other things that bind us aside. And when we learn to bring our prayers and requests into the fellowship of believers, standing together in agreement and a unified faith in God to meet one another's needs. We begin to stand in a place where God is bound by His own Word to hear and respond to our prayers:
"Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them." Matthew 18:19-20
